The Word Speaks

Now the Word of all worlds speaks to us! We can sense the force of the Godhead of the universe, resounding as the one song of creation in the beauty of the blossoming summertime. This verse is a prayer that we may carry this vibration of the holy Word down into the foundations of the soul. We are called to fill the depths of our spirit with His "World-widths," to carry the expanse of the spiritual realms within us. The cosmos beckons us to enliven our thinking through the Christ—the Spirit of the Earth who descended from the Sun.1The Principle of Spiritual Economy in Relation to Reincarnation, Lecture 20, GA 109, 14 June 1909, Vienna. Then, we may think with the heart, the seat of the soul.

As in the previous verse, we are quickening the soul in the heart's holy shine just as the fruits of the world are ripened. We may once again reflect on this prayer for mother's and children.

The plants are quickening in the earth's deep night,
The herbs are sprouting through the power of the air,
The fruits are ripening through the sunlight's might.

Thus quickens the soul within the heart's holy shrine,
Thus sprouts the might of the spirit in the light of the world,
Thus ripens the strength of man in the glory divine.2Prayers for Mothers and Children, GA 40.

Practice the Calendar verses to entrain with the rhythms of the seasons. Together, we will radiate these forces out into society through our moral words and deeds of brotherly love. Rudolf Steiner's verses for the 52 weeks of the calendar are here on our website, together with Rudolf Steiner's original German text and several other translations: Rudolf Steiner, The Anthroposophical Calendar.
